In last week’s edition of the Weekly Word, we discussed our identity in Christ, the who we are in Him. We must believe the truth of who He says we are and, by faith, begin to confess and live according to that truth. It is a perspective that changes our reality!
This week, I want to talk about the second part of identity: our purpose. Now that we’re beginning to understand who we are, we need to discover why we are. Purpose is the reason behind our identity. You can know that you are a child of God, attend church your entire life, and still never fulfill your purpose or reach your destiny!
In Romans 8, the Bible tells us that we are all called according to His purpose, which means that you and I have a specific calling in relation to His Kingdom. The Kingdom is a family business; by His grace, God invites us to step into our designed roles and get to work! In other words, “He rules, and He wants us to do it with Him!” — Jack Taylor.
We are tools in the hands of the Master Builder! When Jesus said, “I will build my church,” He meant that He would use His people as instruments to accomplish this task. We see the power and truth of this statement in Matthew 28 when Jesus gave us the Great Commission. He sent us out to gather people from all over the world and build them into the body of Christ. This endeavor requires many different areas of ministry, tools, if you will, to carry it out.
Every tool is important, and each one is uniquely designed. A hammer cannot replace a screwdriver, and a square cannot replace a table saw. Every tool plays a vital role in the day-to-day work of building, and they all have their own significance.
God has created and designed you with a purpose! Just as Paul stated in the book of Galatians, “He set me apart before I was born and called me by His grace, and was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him to the world,” the same is true for you! It looks different for each of us, but we were all created for the purposes of the Kingdom!
A life without purpose is like a rudderless ship adrift on the sea, headed for a destination of chance. That is not who He created us to be—passive and ineffective! Purpose gives us vision, direction, energy, and desire and leads to intentional living! That is exactly who you were meant to be: a child of God passionately pursuing your purpose!
When you know your purpose, your life will be filled with passion, desire, and an enthusiastic, kingdom-seeking attitude every day! You will begin to wholeheartedly engage in the things of God, experiencing the power of Heaven’s Transformational Influence in your daily life without burnout. It will transform the atmosphere around you—impacting your marriage, relationships, job, health, finances, decisions, as well as, your involvement in the church and the Kingdom! It will change everything!
A life of purpose is the life He came to give you! Our purpose comes from Him. You were gifted with unique talents and abilities at birth. You have a role in the Kingdom that no one else can fulfill. Discover your purpose, and you will uncover what you were created for; you will find destiny! It is the best life you will ever experience—life to the fullest! This life of purpose is only found in a relationship with Him! Discovering your purpose in Him leads to a life of passionate obsession with the King and the Kingdom! Dig in!
